From its start in 1957, Balick & Balick has evolved from a general practice to a specialty firm focusing on health law, civil litigation, and liquor licensing. Our clients range in size from individuals to publicly traded corporations.
As one of the oldest law firms in Delaware, Balick & Balick is uniquely positioned to help clients navigate the state’s legal landscape. For over 50 years the firm has been home to attorneys who are immersed — professionally, politically, and personally — in Delaware life. As a result, local clients come to Balick & Balick to access our extensive knowledge of the intricacies and nuances of Delaware law, courts, and agencies. National clients, including recognized leaders in the health care and alcoholic beverages industries, turn to the firm for guidance in Delaware legal matters.
The lawyers at Balick & Balick are honored to have been associated with a number of distinguished Delaware lawyers who have held prominent positions in federal and state government. As a newly-admitted Delaware lawyer, President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., worked with Sid Balick before embarking on a career in public service. Prior to his election as Delaware’s Attorney General, Joseph R. (“Beau”) Biden, III, was Adam Balick’s partner in a firm formed by a merger of their respective offices. The following former colleagues have become state and federal judges:
The Honorable Bernard Balick
(Superior Court 1973 to 1994 and Chancery Court, 1994 to 1998)
The Honorable Helen Balick
(United States Bankruptcy Court, 1974 to 1999)
The Honorable Joseph R. Slights, III
(Superior Court 2000 to present)
In addition, the firm’s attorneys are active in community service within the state. Sid Balick, the founding member of the firm, served in the State House of Representatives, was a candidate for Attorney General of the State of Delaware and has served on numerous Boards, including terms as chair of the Delaware Cancer Society, chair of the Delaware Supreme Court’s Professional Guidance Committee and chair of the Delaware Sports Hall of Fame. Adam Balick served as Deputy Attorney General from 1989 to 1995 and is a former Chairman of Delaware’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission. He also has served on numerous non-profit boards, including terms as president of the Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts and chair of SODAT (Services to Overcome Drug Abuse Among Teenagers), Delaware.
Due to Balick & Balick’s long tradition of active participation in the Delaware legal community and the community at large, our attorneys are well-positioned to help local and national clients navigate the state’s legal landscape. We are committed to developing practical solutions to our clients’ Delaware legal issues.
